GovHack Competition

GovHack is an annual Open Data competition held across Australia. In 2023 it will be held on the weekend of 18th – 20th August

In 46 hours teams create a project page, proof of concept and a video that tells the story of how government data can be reused.

Some venues will keep the doors open all 46 hours! However good ideas need sleep, so many will close late and reopen in the morning. Check your competition event for operating hours.

Attending a GovHack event

GovHack is a free event to attend for competitors.

GovHack events are recorded in video, audio and photographic form. By attending, you acknowledge and accept that you may be the subject of such recording and your image may be publicly displayed in connection to the event. We will seek to accommodate but cannot guarantee any specific wish not to be recorded or image displayed.

Node events may not have all the bells and whistles of an Official event. They are unique as they cater to our community groups with Youth, Makers or Special Interest themes.

Want a winning edge or perhaps you are intrigued and want to find out what GovHack is all about?

The local GovHack team will give you an overview of the competition and answer any questions you may have. Learn more about official events in your region and all about youth, maker or special interest themed nodes.

The best teams have a mix of skills, and this event is a great opportunity to find a team to join. Many new friendships are formed at GovHack and this is the perfect place for you to meet like minded people.

Data Mentors will be in attendance to share their knowledge of open government data and to provide insight that could help incubate ideas to pursue during the competition.

Tech savvy mentors may even be available to share some tips and tricks to help you create winning concepts.
